What does LSBot know? Most importantly, LSBot knows about the Launch School curriculum, including all course content and the Open Book Shelf. It has a lot more than this, too. Things like transcripts from Podcast episodes, webinars, and Q&As. Testimonials from Core Curriculum and Capstone grads giving advice. Interesting Reddit threads where students have asked questions or discussed Launch School. LSBot can also access outside resources if necessary, but most of the time, it pulls its information from Launch School content.
How can I ensure that what LSBot tells me is correct? This is an important question. You have to double-check what LSBot tells you. If it's providing you with code, make sure to run the code. When it's giving you help with conceptual information, make sure to double-check Launch School resources. You can even ask LSBot where to review the topics you're discussing. If something feels off and you aren't getting a good response, contact Launch School TAs for clarification. You should use LSBot as a resource, not as a replacement for the curriculum.
How can I give feedback when LSBot says something incorrect or has a bug? Most LSBot features provide simple feedback mechanisms like clicking 👍 or 👎, with an option to leave a comment. You can also visit the #lsbot-support channel and share issues there. There are LSBot staff members monitoring this channel.
How should I respond if LSBot’s answer seems off? Give LSBot your feedback! If something seems strange, ask if it's sure, pointing out what seems strange. If something is certainly incorrect, explain it as if you were helping a confused peer. LSBot is pretty good at taking redirection.
Why should I use LSBot instead of ChatGPT, Claude.ai, etc.. We see three significant perks when using LSBot instead of another external LLM.
What are the requirements to use LSBot You must be a Launch School student and agree to Launch School's AI Tools Terms & Conditions. If you aren’t sure you’ve agreed to these terms, log in to launchschool.com and then navigate to the AI Tools Terms & Conditions page. Look for a button at the bottom of the page.
Are there any types of questions LSBot can’t answer? LSBot will follow Launch School's Code of Conduct, meaning it won't tell you what's on an assessment before you take it. LSBot will also limit its answers to relevant topics. You can explore concepts more deeply than we cover in the curriculum, but you can't get a lasagna recipe.
Can LSBot track my progress? LSBot knows what language track you're enrolled in and what course and assignment you're working on.
Can I customize LSBot to my preferences? This isn't an option right now, but we certainly have it in mind for the future!
Does LSBot remember previous conversations? LSBot doesn't have access to previous conversations, but it does have access to everything in the current thread. If you'd like to ask follow-up questions, you can comment on the same thread without repeating previous information.
Who sees my interactions with LSBot? Launch School staff can see all interactions with LSBot. We use this information to correct and improve LSBot. When using LSBot in public channels, any fellow students in that channel can also see your interactions with LSBot, just like a regular Slack discussion.
